Hospitals

     So I have spent my fair share of hours in hospitals lately. First Joel's surgery, then complications, then post ops, then Sophia decided to take a trip to the ER. We have had an eventful month. Let's do a quick recap.

     The second week of May Joel had his Hypospadius corrective surgery. He wasn't allowed to eat from midnight on and if you know this chunky boy that was probably the hardest part for him ha ha. I was prepared for the worst that morning but he was a gem. He made a new best friend with this 14 yr. old boy who was there for like his 5th surgery. 

     Before his surgery ready for the nurses to come take him away! That was the hardest part, handing him to the nurses, he was wide awake and just looked at me like hey where are you going? He had no idea what was coming.

     The surgery took about 2 hours. I tried to read a book but it didn't happen, there was no focusing when my kid is in surgery! After he was done the doctor came out and told me everything went smooth an when he woke up I could go back to recovery. They said it could take 15-20 minutes to wake up it took like 5 minutes and they called me back. When he saw me he immediately tried to sit up and was still to graugy and tipped over ha ha, it was pretty funny. 

   Look at those sad little druggy eyes! He was such a sweetie after he woke up he just wanted to be held and sat there watching everything. He melted every nurses heart he saw! They all wanted to take him home. 

     He healed pretty well but had some complications about a week after his surgery that have evolved into the need for another surgery. So he will go back under the knife the first week of August about three days before we move. Tyler's mom tells me we can never just move we always have some other crazy thing going on at the same time. I am starting to believe her ha ha. 

     I think Sophia was feeling left out, because about a week ago she decided to take me on my first trip to the ER. We were in a hardware store and there was a piece of glass stuck between the front and the bottom of the grocery cart, I put Sophia in the back of the cart and she stretched her legs out and the glass took a big chunk of skin out of her heal. Blood was everywhere. We ended up in the ER and spent three hours there. She needed stitches but because of where it was on her heal they couldn't give her any because there was no skin to stitch. So they bandaged her up and sent us home.

     It took about a week to stop bleeding and finally scab over but it did. She didn't let it slow her down much but she did whine about it any time someone tried to touch her foot.

     They ER spoiled miss Sophia while we were there, I think she even left loving the hospital ha ha. They gave her a full size Jesse doll and a blanket, let her watch cartoons and eat oreos and chocolate milk! They even gave Joel a blanket and a monkey and he wasn't even hurt ha ha. 

    We have had an eventful month With these two, hopefully the next month doesn't involve anymore trips to the hospital!

Surprises!

     Sometimes there are great surprises and sometimes there are not so great surprises. Typically I love surprises! When it comes to my car though I could go with never seeing another surprise ever ever again!

     Three weeks ago my car died on my way to story time with the kids. Thanks to some wonderful friends I got a tow home. Came to find out our engine motor was dead. We decided a motor replacement was our best bet and an expensive repair. Three weeks of happy life then on my trip to drop Tyler off in Nevada for the summer it died again. Turns out it was alternator and engine coil issues. Got them fixed and now I want to get rid of my car ASAP ha ha. Bad surprises!

     On the other hand Friday evening I was playing outside with my kids and the neighbors kids bracing myself for a lonely Mother's day when a shadow cast overhead. I looked up and saw my hubby standing over me smiling! What a great surprise! He drove back into Provo for the weekend for my mother's day present. I loved it!

I love this man!

We spent Saturday sleeping in, shopping, outside at the park, driving up the canyon, then ended it at a movie. It was a perfectly lazy weekend!

We rounded out our Mother's day weekend at my mom's with the family, having dinner, visiting, and cuddling this sweet new baby. Check out that hair! 

     A quick note on mother's, My mother is an amazing example to me of strength, hard work, love and kindness. She is quite funny and very honest, which may be where I get my bluntness from. She is one of the smartest people I know. She is a fabulous mother and an even better grandma! My kids and I are lucky! My mother in law raised me an amazing husband, this speaks miles for the kind of woman she is. I know I am truly lucky to be married to that man and I could never thank her enough for that! She is also a wonderful grandmother! I have truly been blessed to become a mother of my own to two great kids and I hope I can live up to all the wonderful examples of mother's I have in my life!

Pinterest Challenge Recap

     So sorry this is so late but here is my pinterest challenge recap. I did finish these on time but I have been suckin at the blogging lately. So without further ado here it is.

Week 4:  was some graphic art for Joel's room. I decided to go with some bike themes in Joel's room. here is what I came up with. I plan on making some smaller prints and hanging them up to I just didn't have time. 

Week 5: Naan Bread. This recipe turned out so delicious! My hubby loved it so much he want's me to make it for everything ha ha. We have since been to our favorite Indian restaurant and I was surprised how very close it did taste to actual Naan. Try it, you will love it. As far as bread goes it was  quite easy to make! Recipe here. 

Week 6: dresser redo. This turned out so cute! Here is the inspiration photo and the original dresser.

This is for Joel's room and I am going to go back and put some bikes on the sides where the inspiration photo has number's but I am thinking one big bike up the side over all three drawers? We will see if I get it done this summer before we move.

Called out.

     My little sis called me out on my lack of blogging lately and she has a point. I have many a things I need to catch up on. Including but not limited to Easter, graduation, pinterest challenge(which I did finish on time, I just never posted it) and so on and so forth. For now enjoy these cute pictures of my children while I get some posts going! Thanks!

Pinterest challenge week two and three.

     So I am quite awful at this weekly challenge but here is a little catch up. Week two I was going to make a scarf with a box as my guide since I didn't know how to crochet. I bought some gorgeous cream chunky yarn. I was so excited about it! Here is the tutorial I used. It's in Portuguese and it's more pics than an actual tutorial but I figured it out. If you have questions email me. It really was so easy to make!

     This project had a few trial and errors. Things I learned, You need a much larger box than you think. I used a small cereal box and next time I will use something much larger, also it takes much more yarn than I thought. I just bought one roll, next time I would probably triple that. The scarf turned out super cute but it was much smaller and thinner than what I wanted and it look really awkward on me because it just wasn't proportionate to me. Luckily I have a little mini me running around my house that loves scarves! I have been wanting to make her a chunky infinity scarf for a while and now she has one and I LOVE IT! It's more fun to dress Sophia than me anyway so here is the final project.

     Week three I did make my graphic art but I haven't printed them out yet so I will save those for next week. I decided to make my shoes. This project was the one I was most nervous about but it turned out exactly like I pictured it and I am in love with this idea now!! Here is the tutorial I followed. Her instructions are clear and easy to follow. This one can be a little time consuming but I felt it was totally worth my time. 

     These are some Vans I bought several years ago that just got trashed really fast but I didn't have the heart to throw them out. I loved the shape and fit of them. When I saw this shoe tutorial pinterest to recover shoes these immediately popped into my head. I have been really wanting some animal print flats for a while now and when I found this fabric for like 3 dollars it was a done deal! 

     In the tutorial I used she used heals and they were a smooth material. My shoes were flats and easier and harder at the same time. The flats made them easier because I didn't have to worry about covering the heals and the transition line between the heal and shoe! They were a little harder because they were a fabric material so I had to be careful with how much modge podge I put on them. If I put to much it soaked through the fabric and left a spot on the shoe. If I put to little it didn't stick. 

     All in all I loved this project and will definetly be doing this with some other old shoes! Check out the finished shoes! 

     I know they look like totally different colors in these pics, sorry for my awful house lighting! Anyway what do you think? You should totally try this one!

Pinterest challenge week 1

     So my week one challenge is a little late but HERE is the link to Hanna's results! Her's turned out so cute!

     Before my results I have to tell you a funny story. While I was at the grocery store picking out my spaghetti squash Sophia saw it and called it her egg. I told her what it actually was but she insisted it was a giant egg. I just laughed and kept shopping. When we went to check out she almost lost it when I let the cashier ring the squash up. She had to carry the squash in the car, all the way home, into the house, and then made it a nest at home out of our clothes for it to live in! How was I supposed to cut up her egg for dinner?! Ha ha She was waiting for it to hatch. So I did what any good mother would do. Waited till nap time and swiped the egg, cooked it, and hid the evidence ha ha. I know I am horrible but what was I to do?




       So the actual cooking part of the squash was super easy. You just throw it in the oven at 350 for 30-45 min. Then take it out cut out the seeds and pull out the insides with a fork. Put the insides in a pan and cook on medium heat till tender. This is where I ran into problems. I don't think I was patient enough our squash was a little under cooked.

I added spices and some onions to it while I cooked it to give it some flavor. I think next time I will also kind of sautee it in some olive oil. 

Our sauce to go on top full of mushrooms and onions and tomatoes. It was kind of a veggie overload. Next time I will definetly add some meat to it.

The finished product. It looked so delicious, but we were both a little disappointed and left wanting something more. The recipe has some room for improvement. I will definetly be tweeking it and trying again. I haven't given up on it yet. I have had spaghetti squash as a substitute for noodles before and I really liked it.  So I know it can be good! I just need to try some different variations. If anyone has a good recipe for it let me know!

Kisses

     Sophia got her first official kiss. From a boy. He was 4. After the kiss she promptly wiped her face off with the back of her arm and I said good girl! ha ha She is to young for this to start already. Let's be honest though, who doesn't want to kiss this face! 

     I am worried we have our work cut out for us as she gets older. Now though, I have a few things I can look out for. She obviously attracts older men, that may have tempers. This one was blonde and quite protective of her. When she got hit on the arm by a different 4 yr old boy Mr. Kiss ran over and whacked him hard with a giant branch off the ground. ha ha When Mr. Kiss got in trouble from his mom he said "But he hit Sophia!" 

      She was dressed as a princess that day and made sure he knew she was one. He told her he was the prince. She said no you're my friend!

     He was quite smitten but it sounds like Sophia has her head on straight for now. Let's hope it stays that way through her teenage years!
